Tatting and a hole

First of all, I was really excited about all that thread Ryan got me, so I made my first tatting motif:

I'm not sure if I'm doing everything right, but hey, it's my first one. Here's where I found the pattern. I'm going to enter the 25 Motif Challenge to see if I can tat 25 motifs in a year. I probably won't make it, but I need a goal to keep me going.

In other news, I found this mysterious hole in my knitting:

Anyone know what I did to make that hole and how to fix it without unraveling all the way back to it? I keep making these holes where I start a new round. If they weren't right in the center of the garment, I might leave them. But they're pretty obvious. I wish I knew how to prevent them.

  1. I'd have to watch you to see what you're doing. I've never seen holes like that pop up before. Sorry, Schmath... I thought I'd made every mistake possible by now.

  2. That's great that you're learning to knit (and TAT)!

I wish I had time to learn to knit, myself. They both look good to me!

Can't wait to see what other tatting you post!!
    Welcome to the Challenge!

  3. It's hard to tell from the picture, but I can see that the stitch surrounding the hole is two rows tall. If you have increased your stitch count by one stitch then it could be an accidental yarn over. It's also possible that you knit into the stitch below the one on your needle and that created the two row tall stitch that is making the hole.

You may be able to fix it by dropping that column of stitches down to the one below the hole and using a crochet hook to recreate the stitches back up to the needle. However, if there is too much yarn on that row, it might still have a loose look to the stitches in that area. If it was a yarn over, your best bet for fixing it is to back up and reknit - especially in a project where your stitch definition is so obvious.

    Hope that helped!

  4. So nice to have you around. Just browsed your blog and we seem to have the same hobbies! Just love the baby booties!! And you did a good job on your tatted flowers! As far as your knitting is concerned: Think Teresa is right. Suggest you try to fix it the way she suggests, but if it does not like nice, re-knit. Better invest a bit of time then having an endresult that you are not happy with!

  6. Schmath, I don't even have any desire to knit, but I love to see what you're making. I'm a subscriber. Maybe in the distant future I'll have the patience for it. I'll just admire for now.
